The Malabar District has a lot in its basket to offer you. From silver beaches, shrines, temples, forests, hills to spice plantations, tea estates, and even coffee plantations- Kerala has it all on its sleeves.

Let’s have a look at our well-planned itinerary that is made specially just for people like you who won’t settle for less. You get to visit all of the places and experience everything there is to feel in just one trip!

Day 1 – Arrival at Calicut

We will start off this road trip in Kerala from Calicut. It is the ideal place to experience the essence of Kerala. A colonial city- Kozhikode which was previously known as Calicut screams out the different sides of Kerala that you have never seen before. It is historically the trade centre which dealt in carrying out cotton and spice trades with traders from all over the world.

It also happens to be an alluring town set amidst the sea on one side and the hills on the other. The Arabian sea and the Wayanad hills indeed make it one of the most appealing places in Kerala. The green countryside’s, trading significances, rich history, and beaches make Calicut more attractive.

Day 2 – Calicut – Wayanad

There are ample things to do if you wanna have a real taste of Wayanad on this road trip in Kerala. Decorated with nature, waterfalls, caves, and beautiful resorts- Wayanad will steal your heart for real.

This tranquil hill station nestled in the Nilgiris is quite renowned for its spice plantations and flora and fauna! You can find a lot of wildlife in its lush green forests. So, watch out, wildlife enthusiasts!

Day 3 – Wayanad

One of the most thrilling things to do on this road trip in Kerala is to experience a night in a treehouse. And, there is no other place as well suited as Wayanad for this once-in-a-lifetime experience of yours!

Want to explore a pre-historic cave? Eddakal Caves have an exciting rock formation. Soochipara Waterfalls is one of the most scenic waterfalls you will ever see in your life. Surrounded by evergreen forests- the waterfall is a sight to be treasured.

Day 4 – Wayanad-Thrissur

Thrissur is the land of festivals in the South. This place alone gives off the essence of the beautiful Keralian cultures. A land filled with temples and festivals- Thrissur draws thousands of tourists all around the year for its sparkling festivals. The place often glitters in the light of different festivals which makes people fall in love with Thrissur all the more! Athirapally Falls that should not be missed on this road trip in Kerala.

Day 5 – Thrissur – Chalakudy – Cochin

Chalakudy is a quaint town located just on the banks of the river that goes by the same name. What’s so wonderful about this quiet little place is its scenic beauties. Get ready to have your heart blown by the mesmerizing scenery of the river and the forests surrounding it. It looks as pretty as a painting sometimes!

Day 6 – Cochin

The Queen of the Arabian Sea- Cochin is a perfect amalgamation of the past and the present. You can see it beautifully portraying the industrial and financial aspects of Kerala. At the same time, it wonderfully showcases the rich heritage of God’s Own Country too.

Forts, palaces, museums, art galleries, shrines, and temples- Cochin has to offer everything. Also, if you want to catch some amazing Kathakali and Kalarippayattu performances- Cochin is the ideal place to do that!

Day 7 – Cochin – Munnar

Munnar is pretty as a picture hill-station that is filled with estranged lakes and tea gardens. It is quite a well-renowned hill station on this road trip in Kerala. Often termed as the Kashmir of South India- Munnar truly does live up to its name!

Filled with exotic viewpoints that provide ecstatic views of hills and tea gardens to various wildlife reserves and sanctuaries- Munnar is indeed something that will make the wanderlust heart in you happy.

Day 8 – Munnar

There are also several viewpoints out of which Echo Point and Pothamedu View Point are two of the best.  Overall Munnar is a pristine location suitable for all age groups. It also ranks top in honeymoon destinations of India and can be a perfect romantic getaway on this road trip in Kerala.

Day 9 – Munnar – Idukki -Vagamon

Idduki might be one of the least known districts of Kerala. But, we cannot emphasize the beauty of Idduki in words. Words will fall short to describe this piece of heaven that is covered by heavy forests.

Lagoons, lakes, cascading waterfalls, and alluring forests make this a piece of heaven for all nature enthusiasts. Thodupuzhayar, Periyar, and Thalayar are the three main rivers that result in the vast greenery of Idduki. This town is a perfect escape from the daily city life on this road trip in Kerala.

Day10 – Vagamon

Vagamon is one of the hidden gems of Kerala. Often referred to as the Scotland of India- Vagamon is beautiful beyond words. The place wears a gorgeous dress of lush green forests and small rivulets. The meadows and waterfalls just act as accessories to its unmatched beauty.

It is one of the best weekend getaways you can get on this road trip in Kerala. All kinds of water sports, rock climbing, and trekking facilities are available in Vagamon.

Day 11 – Vagamon – Kumarakom

Kumarakom is situated on the banks of the largest lake of Kerala- Vembanad Lake. This place is a haven for all those nature and peace lovers. Houseboats, scenic resorts, paddy fields, migratory bored, and lots of backwater lakes- Kumarakom is bound to be one of the most enjoyable places on this road trip in Kerala. The vivid birds, splendid sunrises, and sunsets- all make Kumarakom a tourist attraction.

Day 12 – Kumarakom – Stay in a house-boat!

Who said you need to go to Kashmir to experience a houseboat? Our very own Vembanad Lake has its own utterly mesmerizing houseboats. And, the good news is you get to spend a night floating on the blissful waters of the Vembanad Lake.

Let yourself relax in these alluring houseboats in the peaceful setting of the lake. These are filled with modern amenities but at the same time provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Take a chance to relax, breathe in the tranquil air of the lake, and dine on the water!

Day 13 Kumarakom – Kovalam

On this road trip in Kerala, the Kovalam sight-seeing should not be missed at any cost. Decorated with spas, ayurvedic centres, and resorts- Kovalam provides an out of the world experience for both your body and soul.

Just a half-hour drive from Thiruvananthapuram, Kovalam is for all you beach lovers. It was a fishing village, but then the Europeans saw this as an exotic location for tourism. It was from the 1970s, that people of India started travelling to this quaint coastal town.

Filled with sandy beaches, Kovalam is pretty famous for its handicraft items too. Known for its low tidal beaches, you will get to see the famous three adjacent beaches in a crescent shape. The different spices, wooden art crafts, and shopping stops make this little beach town all the more lively.

Vellayani Lake, Hawah Beach, Samudra Beach, Lighthouse Beach, and Halycon Castle are a few top spots in Kovalam.

Day 14 – Kovalam – Trivandrum – fly out

The lively capital city of Kerala- Trivandrum reeks of both colonial essence and rich Keralian culture. This city was originally built upon the seven hills by travellers who came from far away via seas. It is now a charming place that still remembers its history and heritage. Beaches, majestic palaces, and temples make Trivandrum one of the most sought out tourist places in South India.

That brings us to the end of our phenomenal road trip in Kerala. Y’all asked for and we have it for you! The trip covers the entire state and leaves no place to be explored. You can add this to your list of adventures!
