Northeast- the place of undisturbed hills, lush green forests, beautiful meadows, gorgeous valleys, and some of the best sights, is truly an underrated tourist spot in India. The states of the Northeast are all unique in their very own ways. But, the things they have in common are the warm people and their kind nature. So, to show you how truly mesmerizing the North-eastern part of India is- we, at Triumph Expeditions, decided to do our best and come up with the best plan for a road trip in the northeast. Let’s check out some details!

Day 1- Arrival Guwahati (30 Km)

We embark on this beautiful road trip in the northeast by arriving at Guwahati. The best part about Guwahati is its cultural essence. Not only is the city truly remarkable, but it is also home to the iconic Maa Kamakhya Temple. Thousands of tourists flock to Guwahati every year to ask the Devi for their wishes and prayers.

This famous Shakti Peetha- Maa Kamakhya Temple is indeed a sight to be cherished. You might be similar to the legend of Shiva and Daksha Yagna. And, Maa Kamakhya Temple is just another one of the majestic temples that speak of this legend.

Day 2- Guwahati to Kaziranga (200 Km)

Being one of the most gorgeous National Parks in all of India- Kaziranga is quite a popular retreat among tourists. Not only Indians but also foreigners make their way to this national park to see the wonders of India. But, there is another surprise for you on this beautiful road trip in the northeast. We will be availing of a jeep safari in this national park! Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary is like a slice of paradise for all wildlife lovers.

Day 3- Kaziranga to Majuli Island and explore (250 Km)

Majuli happens to be the largest island not only in India but in the entire world. And, next on our beautiful road trip in the northeast, we are going to explore the best of what the northeast has to offer us.

Located on the bed of the Brahmaputra River- Majuli is indeed a visual treat. Filled with the different shades of green, the island wins the hearts of many.

Day 4- Majuli Island to Mukokchung and explore (200 Km)

Next on the road trip in the northeast, we will be entering the gorgeous Nagaland. First comes the blissful Mukokchung- the place which is filled with activities. There are a lot of things to explore here. There are museums which talk about the heritage of Mukokchung, and there are two infamous villages to explore as well- Unman village which is regarded as the oldest and largest, and the Ao village.

Day 5- Mokokchung to Kohima & Explore (180 Km)

Kohima is one of the best places you would come across in your whole life. It has unparalleled beauty. Also, the hills are gorgeous. Kohima was not always known by this name, but the original name was ‘Kewhira’ from the Kewhi flowers found in the region.
Kohima War Cemetery is something you wouldn’t want to miss at all. This beautiful site is dedicated to the 10,000 Allied soldiers who lost their lives during the Japanese invasion during World War-II.

Naga Heritage Village helps in maintaining the original tradition of the Nagas. The best part is that you get to learn all about the culture of these blissful people.

Day 6- Kohima to Dimapur and explore (100km)

On this road trip in the northeast, Dimapur is more on the modern aspect of Nagaland. But, it is filled with good places to check out. Some of the few attractions here are Triple Falls, Kachari Ruins, the Nagaland science centre, and the zoological park. Also, it offers spoke of the best views of the gorgeous Dhansiri River.

Day 7- Dimapur to Shillong (350km)

We shall now be entering Meghalaya on this road trip in the northeast. Shillong provides relief from the heat across the country. This hill station is known for its picturesque sights and traditions. The soothing climate makes Shillong suitable to visit in all seasons.

Day 8- Shillong – Explore Dawki lake and Living Root Bridge& Halt at Cherrapunji (210Km)

A trip to Shillong is incomplete without Dawki lake. There is a saying that very few lakes in India are as pretty as the infamous Dawki lake. It is almost like a painting that came to life. For starters, the water is crystal clear. You can almost see the bottom. The lake is well-maintained and boating here is an absolute delight.

The Living Root Bridge is situated in Cherrapunjee. This area is famous for root bridges made of Indian Rubber Tree, but the Double Decker Bridge is the most famous of all due to its large size. It is 3 kilometers long and placed at a height of 2400 feet!

Day 9- Explore Cherrapunji – Shillong (100km)

Cherrapunji is one of the wettest places in India. But, it is a sight you can devour any time. Located quite close to Shillong, the beauty of Cherrapunji is immense. The misty valleys and the waterfalls in the region make a long drive through Cherrapunji ideal for those who love road trips.

Day 10- Shillong to Guwahati And Fly Out (120Km)

Unfortunately, we must bid goodbye to this wonderful road trip in the northeast. Going back to Guwahati, we have to catch the flight and remember these sweet places.
